The SERISE Project – Sharing European Remembrance with innovative School Education programs was launched by EMOTL with the support of the European Union ERASMUS + programs, to assist our partners with new Holocaust educational resources and support European schools and school authorities to develop their Holocaust education work with their students.

The SERISE project is capitalizing on 30 years of experience of the March of the Living educational efforts and hands-on experiences and analyzes the impact of the March of the Living remembrance and educational missions in Poland, to improve the educational tools at their disposal.

The SERISE project will propose new pedagogical approaches and develop innovative European memory methods and commemoration practices in the school’s curriculum. Community of Schools for Holocaust Education (COSHE) In the framework of the SERISE project, EMOTL established “the Community of Schools for Holocaust Education”(COSHE) as a dedicated network of schools engaged in Holocaust education and participating in the March of the Living educational programs.

The “Community of Schools for Holocaust Education” platform and network will promote exchange of knowledge, exchange of views and exchange of best practices, and will foster an effective European partnership between schools and their teachers.

COSHE partners will enhance the participation in the March of the Living educational programs, visits of Nazi concentration and extermination camps in Poland and of other commemorative projects in Europe, in order to make the memory of the Holocaust more visible and accessible for young generations and impact on their involvement to build a better future.

Participants will help to develop and co-create designed educational tools and launch a website/webpage gathering Educational resources and Holocaust Witnesses and Survivors testimonies in order to make them more accessible to young generations, and to educate them
about the causes of Holocaust and reflect upon its horrendous consequences.

Partners will scale up their know how and experience to educate the next generation of witnesses and guardians of Holocaust memory who will commit themselves to bear and pass on the legacy of the Holocaust witnesses and the last Holocaust survivors into the future.

Partners will help pairing between new generations and victims of the Holocaust and Righteous among the Nations in order to pass on their testimonies and legacy and will support their students who will take the responsibility to be the next generation of witnesses and guardians of Holocaust memory, bearing and passing on the legacy of the Holocaust witnesses and the last Holocaust survivors into the future as a part of an educational program and school curriculum.

COSHE partners will identify, mobilize and engage additional schools committed to learn testimonies of Holocaust survivors and witnesses, to increase their involvement and pro- activism in coping with growing expressions of racism, antisemitism, racial bigotry and intolerance, and to raise the awareness and the involvement of their students peer groups in
the project activities.

COSHE will also provide methodological and educational tools to other schools, institutions and teachers if they are interested in innovative education at the school level, even if they are not
yet members of the network.

COSHE aims to be a learning environment for its partners and provide resources for history and civic education at school level.

COSHE will provide innovating materials for Holocaust education in English and in additional national languages and provide relevant training and support for its teachers and educators.

COSHE aims to be a place of sharing the project’s results and a place for their dissemination with all the materials.

The COSHE platform will:

  • Undertake a diagnosis of the state of art in History and Holocaust education, identifying and addressing emerging generational division between generations who witnessed or knows witness of the Holocaust and new generations who don’t.
  • Provide an empirical report presenting the results of a survey based on quantitative and qualitative methodology. The aim of such analysis is to describe the needs of teachers in the area of new approaches to the integration of Holocaust education in the school curriculum, to analyze opinions concerning perceived values, shortcomings and existing barriers in Holocaust education in the countries covered by the project.

  • evelop and verify in practice new approaches to teach Holocaust in an integrated way using new methods of hands-on experience on Holocaust and thus reinforce their knowledge.
  • Provide a long-lasting support to school teachers and educators.
  • Provide resources in Holocaust learning/ including video-testimonies, literature, results of previous participants works, and to encourage the process of searching for additional materials, up-loading new materials, sharing experiences, supporting intercultural learning process for teachers.
